Annis Hapkiewicz taught chemistry and AP chemistry at Okemos High School in Okemos, MI. Annis received her B.A. and Ed.M. from the University of Buffalo and has more than 30 years of chemistry teaching experience. She was a team member for the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation and a team leader for the Flinn Scientific Foundation Summer Workshop Program, and has served as a consultant for the College Board. Motivated by participation in the Woodrow Wilson Chemistry Leadership Institute, Annis first started a support group for local chemistry teachers and then co-founded the Michigan Chemistry Teachers Association. She served as president of the Michigan Science Teachers Association, as editor of their journal and newsletter, as program chair for their annual state conference, and as a board member for 20 years. Along with being a frequent presenter at state and national science teacher conferences, Annis has written more than 30 journal articles. She has received the James Bryant Conant Award in High School Teaching from the American Chemical Society, the Tandy Prize, and the George Malison Lifetime Achievement Award from the Michigan Science Teachers Association.
